Back On Board

Back On Board

This album is available as a download only

In the two years that have elapsed since they produced their last album, the buoys have sailed many a mile and have found new songs aplenty from near and far, some of which they have deemed suitable to record for posterity as "Back On Board". The album was recorded at The Old Wheelwright's on the southern slopes of Dartmoor over the course of a few days in April 2015 and, in an attempt to fully embrace modern technology as they are always eager to, is released on to an unsuspecting world in digital format only.

The songs contained within, none of which they have recorded before, encompass a range of moods; from shanties given the full Exmouth Shanty Men gusto, to quieter and more reflective numbers, sung with all the tenderness and feeling which they deserve.

Sample Tracks:
Also Including:
• Row On, Row On• Congo River
• Barque in the Harbour• Le Capitaine de St Malo
• Mollymauk• Nancy Perriam
• Bold Benjamin• No More Auction Block
• Fire Down Below

Back from voyages in England and abroad, The Exmouth Shanty Men enjoyed a run ashore in January, 2013 in the safe waters of their home port. Since their last recording, Devon's original buoy band have played the main stage at Sidmouth, Warwick and Banbury, appeared on national television and radio in the UK & and in Europe, played at Tall Ships in Ireland and at the Olympics at Weymouth. They look forward to visiting The Netherlands and returning to France and Belgium during 2013.

When home, they can be found each week with a song and a pint in The Grove public house, overlooking Exmouth's deep water channel. Here over the course of two cold and snowy January evenings, they entertained family and friends whilst committing this collection of shanties and sea songs to this, their fourth album.

They hope you enjoy the result.

The Full Shanty

The Full Shanty

£ 10.00

Recorded live before a sell out crowd at their home-town's Blackmore Theatre during the Exmouth Festival, this third album conveys the energy, comedy, integrity and downright audacity of The Exmouth Shanty Men on stage. 16 strong traditional songs, plus a specially written bonus track, create another fine and varied collection of sea songs and shanties, sung as they would have been in the days of sail, with an intoxicating mixture of humour, heart, and heaving.

Many favourites and a few recent discoveries have been given the Exmouth treatment of unique, creative arrangements and settings. What the CD can never share is the powerful visual impact of the crew as they re-enact the deck chores and backbreaking tasks performed by the original sailors when these songs were on every tongue; but it was wisely felt that a DVD called The Full Shanty might scare the horses and cause vapours amongst the womenfolk, so a CD it is! The crew are still a delight to hear, having superb faces for radio and recording and they are indebted to Skinner's Brewery who funded the production costs to allow all profits to be donated to excellent charities around the world.

Sample Tracks:
Also Including:
• Haul Away the Bowline Boys• Skipper Jan Rebek
• Pay Me My Money Down• On Board A Man O' War
• Boney Was A Warrior• Ten Thousand Miles Away
• Dark Eyed Sailor• Candlelight Fisherman
• Haul On The Bowline• Hard On The Beach Oar
• Rio Grande• Rosabella
• Essequibo River• Betty Stogs
